e
at CVF are proud to bring you the ancient arts and culture of the Celtic and Viking
peoples, lovingly reflected in antique elm wood, to create our range of environmentally friendly furniture.
The
Celtic 'Tree of Life' intertwines beautifully with the 'Great Tree Yggdrasil'
of the Vikings, in our concept of bringing you the charming gift of old-growth
reclaimed elm, finely hand crafted and carved in ancient and modern artworks,
incorporated into modern functional furniture, that may become a family heirloom.
Trees were
as vitally important to the ancient peoples as they are to their descendants today;
us! They constructed, crafted and carved using the bountiful trees around them,
taking care to pay their respect to the trees they felled, and honouring mother
nature for her harvest of fine timber. Special trees were to be cherished and
maybe even feared, for they certainly harboured spirits. Both Viking
and Celt offered worship and ceremony at sacred sites, often at the centre of
which, stood a magical tree. While the Tree of Life gave the Celts the insight
to understand, and live within nature, for the Vikings, the great ash tree 'Yggdrasil'
was the axis on which the world evolved. Other cultures of the world would have
held similar beliefs. We
at CVF use only reclaimed timber. Our refusal to log rainforest for gain would
have raised a smile among the ancients. We dedicate ourselves to the preservation
of our environment through art history and culture- and stunning elm that was
once probably a bridge or radio tower, logged in the last millennium. Needless
to say we will log nothing in this millennium!!!
