s
today, trade in the ancient world relied heavily on quality merchandise, which
no doubt included quality craftsmanship. Payment was often settled in silver,
(hence a piece of inlaid silver in many of our pieces). Both Celt and Viking gained
reputation for quality crafted goods, often richly adorned with intertwining figures.
These crafts made easy trade, and easy plunder! Most
of the wooden artworks of the ancients are lost to us today, but stone carvings,
silver work, and illuminated manuscripts that have survived the turmoil of the
ages, coupled with the work of their modern day artist decendents, have enabled
us to retain and enhance our art, heritage and culture. Our craftspeople at CVF emulate our ancestors tradition of fine quality, environmentally friendly furniture, interpreted in charming solid antique elm wood, and we sometimes add a piece of silver, just in case!
